Answering Your Questions: "So You Quit. Now What?"

Plan ahead

After my post about why I quit my full-time optometry job, I received a lot of kind words ā€“ thank you! People had some recurring questions, so I wanted to address some of them here.

You quit work, just like that?

Yes and no. I gave my termination notice, and there is no backing out, but I am working full-time until October this year. This gives me ample time to plan my new schedule from scratch and redesign my life.

Are you done with Optometry?

Practicing optometry is still a big part of my identity, and I don't plan to stop. However, I plan to work less.

What's your plan?

  • Take temporary or fill-in optometry positions in Ontario and Manitoba
  • Autonomy over my schedule
  • Devote more time and energy to those I cherish
  • Pursue other passions

Beyond that, it's very much a work in progress. Currently, I am studying books like The Pathless Path and Designing Your Life to draw inspiration.

The future is still very uncertain, and I haven't figured everything out yet. Even so, I want to share my journey to be transparent about my progress and obstacles, not just the outcome.
